HISTORY
Since the establishment of the Presbyterian church in the United States in 1789, women have met in small groups to repond to the needs of the congregation and the community.  The name and organization of church women's groups changed through the years, but the current design of Presbyterian Women became effective in 1988, following the reunion of the United Presbyterian Church of the USA and the Presbyterian Church of the US in 1983.

Presbyterian Women Purpose

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ,
and empowered by the Holy Spirit,
we commit ourselves:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
To support the mission of the church worldwide,
To work for justice and peace, and
To build and inclusive, caring community of women
that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA)
and witness to the promise
of God's Kingdom.

Presbyterian Women (PW) membership is open to all women in the church.  PW members are those who choose to participate in or be supportive of PW in any way.  PW determines its own leadership and is responsible to the Session.

Circles are small groups that meet regularly, usually once a month, September - May, to provide an inclusive, caring community of women.  Each circle is an integral part of PW.  Circle chairs are elected, appointed, or volunteered by each circle annually.  Circles meet for Bible study, mission and issue studies, and to develop prayer life, engage in service projects, and explore particular responsibilities.  For example, FPC circles plan gatherings, decorate the sanctuary at Christmas and Easter, prepare Holy Week lunches, provide refreshments for bereaved families, and at Christmas send gifts to residents of Presbyterian Homes and collect toys for children.  All women are invited to join a circle.

You can exlore the circles by clicking on the PW subheadings.
